How did you end up in this role? 

Kara started her legal career at the age of 16 when she joined a firm of Solicitors as an admin assistant.  She shortly thereafter qualified as a Paralegal in both Family Law and Debt Recovery.  After around 10 years as a Paralegal, she took the step to undertake her Law Degree on a part time basis, whilst still working full time as a Paralegal.  She trained at one of the top tier firms in Glasgow, and as a result of her years of experience, was awarded a reduction in the length of her traineeship by the Law Society of Scotland.  This is something which is rarely awarded by the Law Society of Scotland.  After qualifying, took the step to join a firm in a small town in Dumfries & Galloway, where she remained for a number of years.  In May 2022, she joined our firm.   

What do you love most about your job? 

I came into this profession to help people.  I like to find solutions to problems, and will focus on alternative dispute resolution as an alternative to proceeding to Court.  My specialisms are Family Law, Debt Recovery and Adults with Incapacity. I pride myself on the emotional, and legal, support which I provide to my clients during difficult times in their lives.  I will always listen.  I am also a Collaboratively Trained Solicitor, and the ethos behind that Collaboration is to find resolution and get clients to a place where they can be happier.  

How do you do what you do? 

No two days, nor two cases, are the same.  I enjoy dealing with complex and niche matters, which can sometimes be out of the ordinary.  I form bonds with my clients, and they know that they can speak to me about anything they are concerned about.   

About Kara

Kara attended Bannerman High School, before working in a number of firms in the Glasgow area.  She attended Glasgow Caledonian University on a part time basis, studying at nights, where she obtained her LLb.  She then obtained her Diploma in Legal Practice at Glasgow University, which she was awarded with Merit.  

Personal Information

Kara volunteers as a Children’s Panel Member where she makes important decisions about the care of children.   For Kara, it is important that a child’s voice is heard.  

When not working, Kara can usually be found up a Munro anywhere in Scotland.  She enjoys travelling around Scotland, and going on weekend breaks where possible.  In her youth, she was the West of Scotland Indoor Bowling Champion.
