A former model, who was seeking £196 million as a divorce settlement from her ex-husband, has been awarded £53 million by the High Court in London, reports the BBC. When her own assets are added they bring the total settlement amount to around £75 million.
Christina Estrada had been married to Sheikh Walid Juffali, a billionaire businessman from Saudi Arabia, for 13 years and they had one child together.
Ms Estrada claims that her husband took a second wife in 2012 and then divorced Ms Estrada under Islamic law without her knowledge in 2014.
She also claimed that her ex-husband is worth around £8 billion, however he denies this, putting his own net worth at around £113.8 million.
Her financial claim had included £60 million for a luxury home in London, £21,000 to spend on shoes each year, and £109,000 for haute couture dresses.
She acknowledged that the life she had lived with her ex-husband had been “immensely fortunate and rarefied,” reports the BBC, but said that this was the lifestyle she was now accustomed to and that the financial settlement was necessary to allow it to continue.
